This morning we will talk about peace – peace in your soul and peace in the world. The key to peace is surrender. It is not a surprise that that word has very different connotations in the spiritual and physical worlds, and yet surrender is essential to the achievement of peace in either.

To surrender is to allow. To allow is to accept. As we have discussed so many times, your acceptance of your good is essential to your ability to experience it. You have come to have a general understanding of the concept of surrender as it applies to your spiritual life, and you are making progress toward living it.

To “surrender” in the physical world has a very different connotation, however. It implies defeat, being vanquished, having dreams shattered, giving up. And each of these interpretations implies that a person’s (or a country’s) individual will is paramount.

Part of your challenge is to gain a new and more positive understanding of the word “surrender.” As you know, peace is ever-present, and it is eternal. It is essential to your ability to maintain your beingness as an open, unobstructed channel through which your good can flow. It is the absence of peace, which by its very nature implies tumult of one kind or degree or another, that impedes the flow.

And as you also know, peace and joy and love are the perfect triangle of goodness. None can exist without the other two. When you can feel yourself being truly in the flow, you can almost physically feel their presence.

But to get to that state, you must surrender. And that means letting go, gently and lovingly, of your human, individual need to be in control, and understanding and totally accepting the perfection of the Universe.

The connection to peace in the world is becoming apparent to you. Just as it has been a lifelong struggle for you (and, interestingly, “struggle” implies a fight or battle) to let go of your need to feel as if you were in control of your own destiny, it is an exponentially more difficult task for nations to let go of their collective need to show their strength and prove their worth.

Two thoughts have come to your mind (which means, of course, that you are allowing the concepts to flow). The first is that nations typically are led by individuals and groups of individuals who have had a particularly difficult time learning the lesson of personal surrender ? if, in fact, they were able to even begin to comprehend the concept. So their personal, individual human need to prove themselves to be right and to be able to control not only their personal lives, but the collective life of their country, creates a collective national consciousness of a need to prevail.

And the strength and fervor of this collective will to “succeed” is what gives the term “surrender” such a negative context. If it can be a lifetime struggle for one individual who has committed her or his life to spiritual growth to understand and practice surrender, it is easy to see how the process of changing a nation’s collective need to prove itself will be that much more difficult.

Your other thought was that those nations that might be considered most “humble” and that feel the least need to impose their will on others seem to have the most peaceful existence. The immediate human response to this, of course, is to think of them as being impoverished or unadvanced or underprivileged. But those interpretations come from a very self-centered perspective of comparing oneself (or one’s nation) to another in order to verify their own feeling of superiority.

Now this does not imply, of course, that those nations are immune to leadership by individuals whose personal human wills are strong and overpowering, but their collective consciousness is not one of a need to control or prove superiority.

The phrase that has come to your mind is “the meek shall inherit the earth.” Here is another word, “meek,” that has a human context of weakness or unwillingness to prove its own merit. But the essence of meekness is peacefulness. And it is true that, in the cultures of those countries that would be considered to be meek, the qualities of joy and love often play a much more integral role in defining the culture than in those nations where there is a collective need to succeed.

World peace must be inspired by, and patterned on, those societies in which it is inherent. And their collective consciousness of peace and joy and love is a natural outgrowth of the individual world views of their citizens.

Please join us from whatever part of the world you live in. Create your own circle even if it is a circle of one. Got a drum? That’s fabulous! No drum? That’s ok too. We’ll show you what to do. This drum circle is for all humans not only those who own a drum.

If you can’t drum with us in Oshweken, Ontario Canada you can hold your own drum circle where you live. Contact your friends, family, neighbours and co workers and see if they will drum with you on September 18, 2010.

Drum the heartbeat for 8 minutes in your circle while our circle does the same. We must all be drumming at the same time for this to work. When it’s 2:00 pm in Canada it may be very early or very late in your part of the world. Do the best you can do to make this happen. Maybe you will have to drum very quietly. That’s ok. Just drum and come together with others who want the world to be a better place for us all to live.

Some of you will be able to create very large circles that are worthy of media attention. Some of you will be able to stream video of your circle onto the internet. Some of you will simply drum knowing that we have posted your circle on this website. Your participation has been recorded and the beat of your drum will join all others as we change history together.

Please realize that this drum circle is for all humans, not only those who own a drum. If you don’t have a drum you can make your own by finding an empty container and a stick. You can use your body as a drum by slapping your hand on your thigh. You can clap your hands to the heartbeat rhythm too. Use whatever you have. Your willingness to drum with us is the important thing, not the drum itself.

The Dalai Lama points out the connection between suffering and afflictive emotions, the “enemy within”. The real enemy is always within, not without. As long as it remains there, lasting happiness cannot be achieved.

Once you have made up your mind to tackle this “enemy within”, to make it count, you realized the true aspiration to seek freedom from suffering.

This is called “renunciation” in Buddhist terms.

Let’s Drum Up a New World – 10 Billion Beats

In September 2009, about 200,000 people around the world joined in a global event called 10 Billion Beats. Using drumming to send a wave of positive intention around the globe, 10 Billion Beats is a simple idea to affect our collective consciousness in a positive way that we will repeat until 2013. The project doesn’t have a big budget campaign, media savvy, or corporate sponsorship. Participation is free. It started with one person then just three of us begin spreading the word. People started telling other people and the idea spread. As individuals band together we can help the world become a little brighter and change the habitual patterns of separation between others and ourselves, between our species and the planet that sustains us.

During the past months, we have seen calamitous earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. Now, seeing the Earth bleed before our eyes with only blind guesses about how to stop the hemorrhage is a stark reminder of the battle we humans have waged with nature. No words describe watching a catastrophe unfold 5000 feet beneath the sea. The growing anger and despair is palpable.

We have watched a seismic fissure widen between political parties here in the US. Globally, the polarities and intolerance between religious groups, races, and nations all seem to have increased. It is time to hasten our response, time to intervene as if the Light is depending on us.

There are signs and prophecies told by many peoples about this time. We can deny the problems, rationalize that someone else will fix them, or try to respond. Like me, you may sense a shift coming on this planet in your bones. There’s a lot of talk about it–2012, Earth Changes, Ascension, solar flares, Rapture, the return of Planet X. Whether any of these events leave us in a New Heaven, on a New Earth, or walking more miles in the same pair of shoes, we should be asking, “How can we create a better world beyond this ‘turning’?” More is asked of us than to fearfully wait for deliverance. Meaningful change is needed; we must start doing that for which we have been learning.

Change doesn’t come easy. “Easy” rarely brings transformation. If we want to make a difference, if we want to personally become different, we have to be stubborn about it until a new way of being becomes natural. Maybe it is ridiculous to think we can change the world but we know it is ridiculous not to try.

10 Billion Beats is not a political movement, a religious faction, an ecological organization, or even a peace group. It is a spiritual endeavor of doing what we know, learning all we can, and trusting that the rest will be provided. We are part of a living system, part of its problem and if we pay attention, part of the solution. 10 Billion Beats is founded on the belief that we–as co-creators–are constantly interacting with creation and must do so consciously with positive intent. It is the “golden rule” applied to “right” and “left,” family, friend, and enemy, Heaven and Earth, mountain, tree and microbe. Each met with the will to good whatever the circumstance. The drumbeat is our unifying call to coherence.

10 Billion Beats was an idea that rattled around in my head for several years–stuck like a “Post it” waiting for me to do something. I hope upon reading this that the idea will stick with you. 10 Billion Beats is a grassroots effort. The only way to create change is from the bottom up if you want it to be stable. Last year we were pleased to see how many blades of grass took root all across North, South and Central America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. We still have work to achieve the goal of every time zone.

You who read this are a special group. Some of you are searchers, some sages; each of you makes a difference. Finding ourselves now in what some call “the great turning” is unsettling. Old forms are fading away before our eyes and humanity is polarized. It forces us to choose whether we will identify with the unity of Spirit, or with the duality of Matter. We step either toward coherence with the Creator and all creation, or we cling to personal power and separation. This is not the first time we’ve noticed this choice. This is not the first time we’ve cared about it, nor is it even the first time we have sought unity and coherence. It is simply the time to try again. So here’s the idea in which I invite you to participate.

First, register to participate. Then, ask at least seven people to join you in the global intention event and ask them to ask at least seven more. If each person extends their invitation to this Seventh Power, the numbers will add up very quickly.

Our vision is that this will provide a means for people who are in proximity to one another to band together for the event, a place to make direct contact while thinking globally and acting locally.

How I Met My Spiritual Double (3 Keys to Meeting Yours)

Sound, movement and purifying my energies had a lot to do with meeting my spiritual double. Since that meeting, I have found great comfort and an ever-deepening richness of my inner world by being in relationship with my perfect health, spiritual twin. Someone told me once that when he reached a certain point in his yoga practice he felt like he was BEING breathed. I feel something similar happens with me and my spiritual twin.

I feel certain everyone has a spiritual twin or double, and with all of the uncertainty in the world today, it’s probably a really good thing to consider attuning to your spiritual double. This is important because nurturing a relationship with your spiritual twin or spiritual double might amplify your own healing process, and uplift your entire life. You know there is a saying: “What you think about, you bring about.” Let it be so for you and meeting your spiritual double. May it be a truly sacred experience.

Here is what happened…

Once upon a time, as a happily married woman, I was leading an ordinary life with an agonizing disability. And, I had a most extraordinary thing happen to me. I met an absolute perfect health energetic double of me that I could see clearly in my mind’s eye and feel as if the double were a physical person standing as close to me as you could get to someone without actually touching them. I met my spiritual double when I was in some of the worst pain and immobility of my life with rheumatoid arthritis. Imagine how surprised I was. I had no idea such a thing was even possible, let alone that I might ask to see something so remarkable as an absolute perfect health energetic double of me. And, it did happen.

I met a perfectly healthy, young, svelte energetic double of me, and I felt instantly that I actually was this person. It’s been years since we first “met,” that I actually saw my spiritual double as a perfect human person. It feels like we have become inseparable. I am conscientious that we move together, like a pair of dancers with one partner standing on the other’s feet as we dance.

What I saw and felt as I experienced my double is that she looked just like me when I was in my late 20’s or early 30’s with skin, muscles – an entire human body double of me, inside and out.

The ancient world says so…

In the early 1900’s, through some amazing circumstances of his own, a Japanese scientist named Master Jiro Murai, came to be studying the world’s sacred texts. He found common threads among all of the different texts. From his research and these studies he discovered that there is a perfect invisible double of each human being constantly feeding life into the physical body by filtering higher frequency energy influences of the planets, Sun and Moon as well as the twelve constellations of the zodiac, which relate to the 12 thoracic vertebrae and 12 organ functions of the body, for example. This is important because this formless or invisible activity of the perfect invisible double made up of cosmic star stuff influencing a physical body, is known as the order of creation of life.

We meet…

It was autumn, November to be exact. It was evening. My husband and I had already eaten dinner. My husband had begun martial arts training in the gentle art of Aikido in October 1999. (Aikido loosely translated means “the way of harmony of spirit.”) (There is that word again – harmony.).

So this very night, I went along with my husband to watch him do his aikido routine. I walked into the dojo with the assistance of my rolling walker, a strange looking, and clunky, metal thing with special arm rests for people who cannot hold onto the walker very well. My husband helped me sit down in the back of the room in a comfortable padded chair, the same chair from which my husband would have to lift me up when the aikido practice was finished, because I could not get out of the chair by myself. The other aikido students and my husband, barefooted, and dressed in their white tunics and pants with various colored belts signifying their levels of accomplishment, prepared to work out on the large cushiony, matte floor area.

This particular evening the sensei (the Japanese word meaning teacher or master) instructed everyone to warm up by doing a breathing exercise, then he led everyone in two different exercises to increase “ki” spelled k-i which is Japanese for chi or spirit energy). Next the teacher introduced something new. He put on some music, it sounded like a Jai Uttal song that started out slowly, had a really strong drum rhythm with an accelerating tempo and increased in depth and richness as additional musical instruments entered the song. I had made a mental note that I had never heard this song before and I really liked it. Sensei then told the students to move to the music with their eyes closed if possible, and “find your own rhythm.” The teacher called this “Aikido-mai” which is Japanese for the dance of Aikido.

So here I am sitting in my comfortable chair in the back next to the large white matted floor area filled with fluidly moving bodies, each in their own personal dance of aikido. I had followed along with the students on the mat and had done the breathing and ki building exercises along with everybody else, only I did the exercises seated in my chair.

All of a sudden an absolute perfect double of me stood up right in front of me about two inches away from my body! My etheric double was facing forward as my physical body was facing forward in the chair. My spiritual double stood up and raised its arms in the air like you’ve seen in pictures of the person standing on top of the mountain or looking out at the ocean with their arms raised in the air in a V for victory and a V for receiving all that the moment has to offer.

My heart was overflowing. I began to silently cry as I kept my eyes closed and continued to move my arms and hips to the music, all the while I am in awe of what I am witnessing. I remember the perfect double’s perfect posture, and felt her perfectly toned organs and breasts and muscles and joints, and hands, strong and healthy. She was a youthful, in the prime of her life perfect double of me. I knew instantly the double was me. My life would be different from this moment on.

Now, it just so happened, as if this all wasn’t amazing enough, while the spiritual double was showing itself to me, the pregnant wife of the Sensei was looking at me sitting and moving to the music in my chair. The wife mentioned this to me after class. The woman said she felt a huge loving presence surrounding me. It felt so strong, said the wife, that it made her shift her attention from watching everyone moving on the matted floor area, to watching me in my chair.

Was it the “ka” body?

Was I going crazy? If so, I liked this kind of crazy. Did I, and vicariously, the pregnant wife of Sensei, witness a physical manifestation of my non-physical, soul self, or what the ancient Egyptians called the “ka” or spirit-twin? The “Ka” or Spiritual Double carries the consciousness of a deceased person for example and is the active principle of Spirit in a living person as well.

If it happened to me, then surely it must be possible for you, and you do not have to be in perfect physical health.

Here are 3 keys to developing an environment conducive to meeting your Spiritual Double:

• 1. A regular habit or practice (repetition) of raising your energies or frequencies to a high place of love and compassion such as energy healing self-help, for example.
• 2. Including the body in the process, as with singing or hearing sacred music, or moving your body, exercising it, and being present with all of your senses to your awareness of your body even while sitting in a chair as you would in breathing and building “ki” or Spirit.
• 3. And, if you really want to have an experience meeting your Spiritual Double, you may want to request that, saying it out loud.

Everyone is created equally and made up of the same cosmic “stuff.” It is up to you to pursue a relationship with that part of your nature (cosmic “stuff”) that takes you beyond the basics of being human, which may for you include a “beyond mind and body,” invisible, absolute perfect health etheric double of you. The more you focus on that absolute perfect health etheric double of you (repetition), the more the awareness and consciousness of it expands and the more you know it.

So, it seems the “system” is set up for you to know your Spiritual Double. What appears to be an important part of the potential meeting is the inclusion of your physical body in your preparation.

One of Aikido O Sensei’s editions of poems contained this preface: “Those who train in Aikido [the way of harmony of spirit] must never forget that the teaching has to be forged in one’s very body. Always keep in mind the Divine workings of creation, from beginning to end, and ceaselessly learn from the gods. Make the entire universe your dojo (school of training).”

Based on the advice of various masters who have gone before us, we are encouraged to plan for and prepare for such opportunities as meeting with our spiritual double. You make room for the possibility. Meeting your spiritual double is possible, maybe now more than ever, highly likely, and maybe even a new normal. Let it be so!

It is a deeply intense expression of life.  It is the sort of thing that can move mountains.  It is the sort of thing that can fill emptiness.  Real love is silent.  It has a deep base of silence.  It has a deep base and transformational quality.  Its presence is enough to cause a deep commitment to the truth of who you are.  It knows to honour itself in all its divine reflections.  It knows to love without limit and without borders.  It penetrates and dissolves boundaries.  It consumes and enhances relations.  Its motive is self contained and yet its function is self fulfilling.  It knows to transform war and hate into love and peace.  It belongs to no movement and yet is the root of all movements.  It cries in joy and explodes in truly awesome insight.  To live as love is to love as life itself.  The very essential nature of life is pure love.  Reveal it and you are home.  Die to it and you are self realized.

Love & Gratitude

Regarding this unusual gentleman, Harold Waldwin Percival, we are not so concerned with his personality. Our interest lies in what he did and how he accomplished it. Percival himself preferred to remain inconspicuous, as he pointed out in the Author’s Foreword to Thinking and Destiny. It was because of this that he did not wish to write an autobiography or have a biography written. He wanted his writings to stand on their own merit. His intention was that the validity of his statements be tested according to the degree of Self-knowledge within the reader and not be influenced by Percival’s own personality.

Nevertheless, people do want to know something about an author of note, especially if they are greatly affected by his ideas. As Percival passed away in 1953, at the age of eighty-four, there is no one now living who knew him in his early life and only a few who know details of his later life. We have assembled those few facts that are known; however, this must not be considered a complete biography, but rather a brief sketch.

Harold Waldwin Percival was born in Bridgetown, Barbados, British West Indies, on April 15, 1868, on a plantation owned by his parents. He was the third of four children, none of whom survived him. His English parents, Elizabeth Ann Taylor and James Percival, were devout Christians. Yet much of what he heard as a very young child did not seem reasonable, and there were no satisfactory answers to his many questions. He felt that there must be those who knew, and at a very early age determined that he would find the “Wise Ones” and learn from them. As years passed, his concept of the “Wise Ones” changed, but his purpose to gain Self-knowledge remained.

When Harold Percival was ten years old, his father died and his mother moved to the United States, settling in Boston, and later in New York City. He looked after his mother for about thirteen years until her death in 1905. An avid reader, he was largely self-educated.

In New York City Percival became interested in Theosophy and joined the Theosophical Society in 1892. That society split into factions after the death of William Q. Judge in 1896. Percival later organized the Theosophical Society Independent, which met to study the writings of Madame Blavatsky and Eastern “scriptures.”

In 1893, and twice during the next fourteen years, Percival had the unique experience of being “conscious of Consciousness,” a potent spiritual and noetic enlightenment. He stated, “Being conscious of Consciousness reveals the ‘unknown’ to the one who has been so conscious. Then it will be the duty of that one to make known what he can of being conscious of Consciousness.” He stated that the value of that experience was that it enabled him to know about any subject by a mental process he called “real thinking.” Because these experiences revealed more than was contained in Theosophy, he wanted to write about them and share this knowledge with humanity.

From 1904 to 1917, Percival published a monthly magazine, The Word, which was dedicated to the brotherhood of humanity and had a worldwide circulation. Many eminent writers of the day contributed to the magazine and all of the issues contained an article by Percival as well. These early writings earned him a place in Who’s Who in America.

In 1908, and for a number of years, Percival and several friends owned and operated about five hundred acres of orchards, farmland, and a cannery in upstate New York. When the property was sold Percival kept about eighty acres on which there was a small house. This is where he resided during the summer months and devoted his time to the continual work on his manuscripts.

In 1912 he began to outline material for a book which would contain his complete system of thinking. Because his body had to be still while he thought, he dictated whenever assistance was available. In 1932 the first draft was completed; it was called The Law of Thought. He continued to work the manuscript over and over to clarify and edit it. He did not wish this to be a mystery book and was determined to clothe his work in accurately fitting words however long or great the effort. Its title was changed to Thinking and Destiny and finally printed in 1946.

This one-thousand-page masterpiece was produced over a period of thirty-four years. This system of thinking, which covers in exhaustive detail the subject of Man and his world, is not found in any other literature. Subsequently, in 1951, he published Man and Woman and Child and in 1952, Masonry and Its Symbols and Democracy Is Self-Government. The three smaller books are based on Thinking and Destiny and deal with selected subjects of importance in greater detail.

In 1946, Percival, with two friends, formed The Word Publishing Co., which first published and distributed his books. During this period, Percival worked to prepare manuscripts for additional books, but he always made himself available to answer the many questions from correspondents.

The Word Foundation, Inc. was formed in 1950 to make known to the people of the world all books written by Harold W. Percival and to insure that his legacy to humanity would be perpetuated. Percival assigned the copyrights for all of his books to The Word Foundation, Inc.

On March 6, 1953, Percival passed away of natural causes in New York City a few weeks before his eighty-fifth birthday. His body was cremated, according to his wishes.

It has been stated that no one could meet Percival without feeling that they had met a truly remarkable human being of immense power and greatness. His works represent a towering accomplishment in addressing the true state, and potential, of the human. His contribution to humankind can have a far-reaching effect on our civilization and civilizations to come.
